Our Tree Planting Initiative
Trees play a critical role in sustaining livelihoods for local communities and in
enhancing the well-being of our planet. In a bid to reverse the existential threats
posed by climate change on vulnerable communities, we are progressively
empowering households, smallholder farmers, and institutions by providing tree
seedlings.
Our Approach
Our tree-planting initiatives are community driven. We interact with the target
communities in their ecosystems to hear from them about the kind of trees they would like
to plant. They could be fruit trees, garden trees, or even fast-growing wood trees.
As a way of giving back, thanks to the invaluable support we’ve received from our
customers, we distribute seedlings to earmarked communities and individuals.
Our approach is unique in several ways:
- Voluntary - Out of their own initiative, the communities embrace and actively
participate in the project.
- Need-based- We do not prescribe the type of trees for them to grow. It is upon
them to decide based on their unique circumstances and needs.
- Flexibility- They do not need a large piece of land for them to plant a tree.
Even in their backyards or small gardens, they can plant a tree or two.
The tree planting project underpins our philosophy of changing the world one product
at a time. Together with our customers, shoppers, and end users, we believe in the
transformative power of small steps taken in the right direction.
